OnePlus 6 confirmed to sport 8GB RAM with 256GB internal storage

OnePlus 6, the company’s upcoming flagship will be unveiled soon and after confirming and defending the decision of why their upcoming device will have a notch on the top of its display, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has now revealed that the mobile phone will be equipped with 256GB storage, which will be a first for the brand, and 8GB RAM. The OnePlus 6 will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 SoC and as we already know and it comes with the 3.5mm audio jack.

Pete Lau revealed the hardware specs of the smartphone on the official OnePlus forum saying, “Fast is about ensuring there is less than a 1/1000 percent likelihood of your phone freezing, even under constant heavy use. To us, it’s about setting a higher standard. To create this higher standard, we start with the best hardware: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Choosing the best hardware is the easy part, the real challenge is in making the best hardware perform in ways that adds value to the experience of the user. Within the OnePlus R&D team, we have a specialized team called Team FSE (Fast, Stable, Efficient). Their focus is solely on maximizing the power of our flagship devices.”

The company recently confirmed the name of its upcoming flagship smartphone as the OnePlus 6 in a video. The official forum for the OnePlus 6 has also gone live and from what we know so far, the smartphone will have a dual rear camera which are stacked vertically and it will run on OxygenOS based on Android Oreo. Evan Blass had recently leaked an image of the device’s rear panel with what looked like a wooden finish. It is speculated that it could be a special variant of the device, same as the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition.

OnePlus Co-founder, Carl Pei also confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will sport a notch on top of its display and Pete Lau had also provided an explanation for the company’s decision, which sparked a “fiery debate” online. As per the company, it decided to opt for the notch in the display to give more screen real estate to their users as the components in its upcoming device no longer need to take up the entire space of the top bezel. The notch on the smartphone is said to be smaller than the iPhone X, but larger than the one we have seen on the essential phone. Lau said that it couldn’t have been any more compact without affecting the quality of the smartphone’s front-facing camera and earpiece or they would’ve had to remove the proximity and ambient light sensors, or the “user-requested” LED notification light.

Addressing the concerns of users who feel that the notch hampers the viewing experience on a smartphone, Lau says that the notch on their device won’t do so as it will come with a compatibility mode. The mode can be set for individual apps and will black out the sides of the notch when the smartphone is in landscape mode. The company claims to have tested over 1000 most popular apps on the Play Store using the feature and that it “works wonderfully.” You can read what Carl Pei earlier said of the notch design on the company’s upcoming phone here.
